White Husky BreedWe would like to introduce you to our beautiful white huskies. This special breed originated in a small Arctic village named Coleville Lake here in the Northwest Territories of northern Canada. Bern Brown, the founder of this community, and his wife Margret have always loved running white huskies. In the early 1980’s Margret bred a purebred white Alaskan malamute to a white Siberian and started keeping records of her puppy litters. Shortly after moving to Inuvik we bought two puppies from Margaret and in 1988 we bred our first litter of white huskies. Through careful selective breeding over the years we have changed the eye color from predominately brown to blue and have improved the intelligence of the breed. The temperament of these dogs is wonderful . They are affectionate and friendly although some are a bit shy with strangers. Because we are not interested in racing we have never compromised the breed by interbreeding them with hounds or other southern breeds. They have therefore maintained an exceptionally beautiful coat and can stay warm living outside in extremely cold temperatures. Interestingly enough, the dogs that we have sent to warm climates such as southern California and South Africa have adapted very well. They simply do not grow a warm undercoat if it is not required. Although this amazing husky breed has never been officially registered with the Canadian Kennel Club it has always been referred to as the Coleville Lake Husky. |
